Nearly 85 years ago, the Pearl River Amusement Corporation, a group of leading local citizens, built a theater that combined vaudeville and silent movies. First called the Granada Theater, it was renamed the Central Theater by subsequent owner, William Sherman. Later, when a new Central Theater was built opposite the Central Avenue School, the theater was renamed The Pearl River Theater. Over the decades, thousands of films have been shown, to tens of thousands of citizens. Why lose this history forever when we have several viable options to create a vital, self-sustaining center for the arts in the heart of town?
